Focus. Focusing on focus. There is a difference between what calls for our focus and where we actually put our focus. We must learn to discern this. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t come easily. This is the practice of mindfulness in action.
Practice: Focus on your breath – breathing in, breathing out. Notice when your mind wanders off. What did it start thinking about? Did you hear a noise? Feel a sensation? Can those things be present as you refocus on your breath? It’s easy for us to get pulled in many different directions and feel like we have no control. But we can learn to focus and refocus again and again on what is important to us.
