I have some exciting news! 

As you may recall, my hometown of Sea Isle City, NJ, has an anti-fortune-telling ordinance that has been used to prevent me from operating my business, participating in local events, and presenting workshops and classes in town (including at the county library) for the last several years. Last year, myself and others spoke at a City Council meeting urging them to repeal the ordinance. 

I was recently informed that the City Solicitor (the city’s lawyer) had reviewed the ordinance and my work and determined that the ordinance DOES NOT apply to my business and work as a Psychic Medium! 

Thank you, Mr, Baldini, for your thoughtful consideration and action! I’m sharing Mr. Baldini’s official findings on behalf of the city with his permission:

At the City’s request I have undertaken a review of whether the sought after mercantile license by Ms. Haffert violates the City ordinance prohibiting fortune telling, section 3-15, et seq.

The ordinance states:

“No person shall use or pretend to use or have any skill or charge any price for engaging in Palmistry, phrenology, physiognomy, occult practices, or pretend to tell destinies or fortunes.”

Ms. Haffert seeks to obtain a mercantile permit allowing her to conduct her business in the City as a psychic medium and spiritual coach.

Her website confirms she “has spent over fifteen years on a spiritual and self development journey that has led her to be able to uniquely share her highly sought-after perspective with an open heart….She is dedicated to creating healthier, more equitable social structures that support all individuals and groups fully….Catlin is dedicated to mindful, wholehearted living and fosters wellness and well-being for beings big and small.”

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines fortune teller as someone with the supposed ability to foretell future events and especially the details of a person’s future.

The clearly stated mission of Ms. Haffert and her many years of experience are dedicated to helping people by creating healthier environments for individual growth through her counseling and efforts.

In light of the foregoing it is my legal opinion that the business model of Ms. Haffert is not the conduct of fortune telling as envisioned in the ordinance and a mercantile license may issue to Ms. Haffert to conduct her business in the City and allow her to participate in all City functions, festivals, and events.

You may disclose this opinion to Ms. Haffert as you deem appropriate.

While the ordinance itself is still problematic, outdated, and needs to be repealed due to its First Amendment rights’ violations of both free speech and religious freedom, I am gratefully accepting this precedent-setting win. 

A massive thank you to City Council member, JB Feeley, for all of his effort, dedication, and support in this matter. JB championed this cause and I’m eternally grateful.

Animals Are Spirit Guides In Form

Last week, my sweet little girl, Catty Mayonnaise, peacefully transitioned after a year of intensive at-home hospice care. CM entered my life as a 3 month old foster kitten. A fan favorite due to her sweet, social, playful, loving purrsonality that somehow never got adopted. I eventually realized what she always knew – she was right where she was meant to be. That was 15 years ago. Over the course of our time together, she helped me to grow and heal in deep and extraordinary ways. I have been furever changed by her and I am incredibly grateful. 

Through my spiritual work, I know animals to be spirit guides in form. They are here to guide, support, love, heal, and foster growth within us. Catty Mayonnaise did all that and more. Animals connect and communicate with us telepathically and energetically. It was long clear she could hear me, but eventually I learned I could hear her too. Once that door was opened, she took full advantage! The past couple years have been especially inspiring (and amusing and mindblowing and heartwarming) with the amount of communication we had, particularly while she was sick. She accurately predicted the exact time she would successfully poop after hours of constipation, she was very dramatic and woke me up yelling, “HELP!” when she wanted her food freshened up, and then she told me how she wanted to travel this transition journey together. We were mostly on the same page, minus the cat diapers she begrudgingly compromised on. I checked in regularly to see if she was ready or wanted vet transition assistance and she always responded, “not yet.” A few weeks ago, her answer changed to “soon.” Three days before she passed, she told me was ready to go but that she would do it on her own. We had three very cuddly and love-filled days. 

Even though I know she’s still with me and I can connect with her in spirit, I am still human and I’m sad and miss her. Grief is a journey we all have traveled. It’s part of this earth experience and I am processing through it and healing and growing from it. At the same time, I am also deeply touched that she guided me to trust my intuition so strongly that I was then entrusted to honor her wishes and advocate for her in this way. She has been nothing but a blessing. 

In the last four years, I have had to say goodbye to three soul cats that touched and changed me. Some in overlapping, coordinated ways and some in their own unique, inspiring ways. These wonderful beings have offered immense soul-awakening. We are forever healing, growing, expanding, and evolving, and our animals are always right there to help, support, guide, inspire, and love us unconditionally and infinitely, on this side and the other.

Voices from the Beyond: A Demonstration of Mediumship

Join us for an evening of spirit connections!

In a mediumship demonstration, attendees’ deceased loved ones come through to demonstrate continuity of life after physical death. These short readings are evidential, healing, and entirely spirit-led.

Please note that only a few attendees will receive direct readings. Attending the event does not guarantee that you will receive a communication from your loved one. However, your spirit loved ones know you are present and intend for this to be a meaningful experience even without a direct reading. You are never alone and are always surrounded by love. We are all more connected than we realize.

If you are attending the demonstration and are not interested in receiving a public reading, please be prepared to acknowledge your spirit people if they come forward.

This demonstration will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at 6:30pm at the Avalon Free Public Library in Avalon NJ. It is free and open to the public. No prior registration necessary. All are welcome!
