Water Wisdom: Purging Expectations

You’ve been fed a lot of lies. About who you are. About the world. About why you’re here. So many expectations from family, friends, society, and the world at large. These are not your purpose. These are not who you are. These are not why you’re here. You must purge these from your system and start anew. Authentic you is waiting.

Practice: Today’s practice is a mix of somatic processing, visualization, and energy clearing. Find a private place. Stand if possible. Imagine all of the expectations of others that you’ve been carrying around sitting in your stomach, chest, and throat. Notice how they feel. Notice how you feel. Now start moving your body as if you are moving them out of you. How do they want to exit you?Squeeze your abs and use your out breath while imagining and visualizing all of these expectations leaving you. What do they look like? Are they small and separate or one giant mass? Are they solid, liquid, or air? What colors and shapes? If it’s a large mass, you can act out using your hands to help pull it out. Once out, what do you want to do to it? Stomp on it? Throw it out? Take a sledgehammer to it? Burn it? Use your imagination (and body if appropriate) to destroy them. Then check in with yourself again. How do you feel?

Patience in the waiting. There is still peace in the meantime. There is still presence in this present moment. There is still hope to be had. There is still peace right here, right now, while you wait.

Practice: Notice how you’re feeling. Do you feel like you’re in a holding pattern, waiting, or stuck? Take a mindful moment. What would help you connect to this moment? Imagine the water gently ebbing and flowing. Focus on this imagery. Move with it. Notice how it makes you feel.

Practice: Are you following your soul path? Is there anything about following it that scares or stops you? Identifying the things that stand in our way allows us to work our way through it. What step can you take today to commit further to your path? Be brave and persist.

Permission. Give yourself permission to feel it all. Give yourself permission to experience it all. Give yourself permission to accept it all. Stop running from yourself and your feelings. Grant yourself this gift of permission for things to be as they are and for you to be as you are.

Practice: Think about a situation you are currently in or will be coming up soon. What about this situation are you struggling with? What are you scared of? What do you need? Who do you want to be? Write yourself a permission slip for who and how you want to be in this situation and keep it in mind as you move through it.

Simple pleasures. These are the sweet bites of life that open the door to joy, contentment, enjoyment, peace, gratitude, and love. Identifying and embracing them as they arise, including finding and creating them in any moment, these are the skills to develop. Simple pleasures are abundant if only you choose to look.

Practice: Look around your space. What catches your eye? What brings you delight? What allows you to relax? Laser in on this simple pleasure. Tune into the feelings it invokes in you. Allow yourself to feel good. Do this throughout your day and week, especially in different situations.

Hold on! The winds of change and transition are blowing. It’s going to feel uncomfortable at first – cold and like you might blow away. But you run much deeper than you know. There is a deep well of resilience within you. Sink deeper into this well and you sink deeper into you. Your capacity to weather the storm far outweighs your fears, anxieties, and worries. Sink deeper into yourself and find your peace in the storm.

Practice: How do you find presence during tumultuous times? How do you cultivate and access peace during the storms? How do you come back to yourself when anxious and stressed? Find small ways to access your groundedness, even just for a breath or one minute at a time. Every small step leads you in the right direction.

Practice: What is faith to you? Anchor into that feeling of total and complete faith in yourself, in who you are, in what you stand for, in how you show up in the world. Feel it, explore it, maintain it. How can you bring more of this feeling into other parts of your life? Is there anything that is standing in your way from experiencing this feeling?

Joy. You need it to survive and thrive. Cultivate many avenues to joy. Don’t allow your joy to be dependent on other people or outside situations or experiences. You must create your own reservoir of joy, your own paths to joy. Let them be plentiful and full. Bask in them. Exalt.

Practice: How do you tap into joy? Into goodness? What feels good to you? How long can you sit in that goodness before something less pleasant appears? Does it take over or can you go back to the goodness, the joy? How many paths to joy do you have? Can you cultivate more? What’s standing in your way? Think of something that brings you joy, no matter how small. Focus on it and see how long you can stay fully focused on it. If your attention drifts, bring yourself back to the joy source. Do this every day.

Be yourself. Authentic you is who the world is waiting for. It’s who the world needs. There will always be things that try to block your true self but you get the final say. You must choose the true you over and over and over again. You must choose yourself.

Practice: We often confuse our subconscious programming self with our true self, but they are different. Our subconscious programming self is the self we created to keep us safe in the world, in our family, our society, and cultures. Our true self is our soul, the highest version of ourself. These two selves are often in conflict with each other. Start noticing who is showing up in a variety of different situations with different people. If your subconscious programming self is showing up, feel into why. Notice what is blocking your authentic self in certain situations. Play with it. Find your freedom.

Water Wisdom: Anticipation and Anxiety

Prolonged excitable anticipation is the flip side of anxiety. One is more acceptable and expressible than the other, but both are often suppressed and hidden in one way or another. Both need to be accepted and expressed for us to be balanced and in alignment. We must allow all of our feelings.

Practice: Have you noticed that the feelings of anticipation for something you’re excited about are a more joyful version of anxiety? Two halves of the same coin – one we deem “good” and one we deem “bad.” Think about something coming up that you’re excitedly anticipating. Take note of the bodily sensations and emotional feelings you experience. Think about something that brings you anxiety. Take note of the bodily sensations and emotional feelings you experience. Can you see the similarities and the differences? What comes when you explore them further? Your body is trying to talk to you – can you listen?
